Selection Guide

How to Choose the Right Switchgear

Answers to the most common selection questions for PV plant AC-side switchgear.

Which switchgear should I choose for a PV plant grid-interconnection point?
For a 3.6–12kV medium-voltage interconnection point, the KYN28A-12 armored withdrawable switchgear is the standard choice — it is the medium-voltage workhorse for PV substation incoming/outgoing feeders. For sites needing compact ring-feeder access across multiple MV connection points, the HXGN-12 SF6 ring main unit is more space-efficient.
What is the difference between KYN28A-12 and HXGN-12?
KYN28A-12 is an armored, withdrawable (drawout handcart) metal-enclosed switchgear built around a vacuum circuit breaker — used for main incoming/outgoing MV feeders with higher current and breaking capacity. HXGN-12 is a compact, SF6-insulated unit-type ring main unit built around a vacuum load switch — used for ring-fed ties between multiple MV connection points with a smaller footprint.
What is the difference between GGD and MNS low-voltage switchgear?
GGD is a fixed-type low-voltage switchgear — components are bolted in place, simpler and more economical, suited to AC combining and general LV distribution. MNS is a withdrawable (drawer-type) switchgear — functional units can be racked in and out under load for maintenance without de-energizing adjacent feeders, suited to larger low-voltage distribution rooms where uptime and modularity matter.
Can this switchgear be used for the AC side of a PV plant?
Yes. These product lines cover the full AC path from the low-voltage combining room (GGD, MNS) through to the medium-voltage grid-interconnection point (KYN28A-12, HXGN-12), matching the voltage classes typically used in utility-scale and C&I PV plant single-line diagrams.
What standards does Econo Solar switchgear comply with?
The medium-voltage KYN28A-12 and HXGN-12 comply with IEC 60298 and GB 3906. The low-voltage GGD and MNS comply with IEC 60439-1 (IEC 61439 family) and GB 7251.1.
What is the typical lead time for switchgear from Econo Solar?
Switchgear is engineered-to-order based on your single-line diagram and breaker/relay selection. Send your SLD and site conditions for a firm lead time and FOB Shanghai quotation within 24 hours.
